The Bushido-Kai Academy located in Halifax is Atlantic Canada's largest running multi–discipline Martial Art training facility and is one of the few schools in Canada to have such a diverse line up certified instructors with Black Belts or instructor certifications  in Japanese Jujitsu, Muay Thai, Amateur Kickboxing, Inosanto Filipino Martial Arts, Modern Arnis, Bakbakan Kali, Kali Ilustrisimo, Shootwrestling, Judo, Greco –Roman wrestling, Free-style wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu,  Kyokushin Karate, Goju-Ryu Karate, Jun Fan Gung-Fu, Jeet Kune Do, Submission grappling.

Founded by Sensei Ray McKinnon in 1985 the Bushido-Kai is recognized around the world by some of the leading instructors in various disciplines.
With a huge team of certified instructors in various programs they all bring their own years of training and wealth of knowledge, from pioneering Japanese Jujitsu, Kickboxing and Submission grappling in the province, training Canada games athletes in  Judo and Wrestling and right up to working fighter’s corners at U.F.C events

The academy is a 3000sf facility complete with change rooms, showers and a 1200sf matted training floor and welcomes all levels. We have had everyone come through our doors from beginners to World Champions and U.F.C hall of fame inductees.

We have a large competition team that has competed in various events from Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Judo, Submission grappling and MMA. With over 40 international medals in BJJ, belt titles in local MMA events and various wins in other events.

We also offer the longest running Japanese Jujitsu, Submission grappling and Kids Jujitsu class in Nova Scotia, and have been teaching Kickboxing since 1987. We welcome all levels of experience and being part of Bushido-Kai is being part of an extended family.

News Section

  1. Recently BK owner Ray McKinnon assisted local instructor Joan Helson in teaching a safety and security seminar to 80 resident managers of Killum proprieties, then a few weeks later taught another course to N.S Power employees, both where very successful seminars, more corporate seminars are in the works.
  2. The Women that fight open mat recently held at BK had a great turnout and had many great ladies from various clubs come together to train.
  3. May 29th senior J.K.D students are off to Montreal to train with the Worlds leading authority for Jeet Kune Do the great Dan Inosanto.
  4. June 7th is a MXT /Cia Paulista grappling event in N.B hosted by head coach Edgard Lucke
  5. June 11th BK head striking coach Gerald Sanders starts his always exciting summer boot camps - see Facebook page for info
  6. June 20th student David Reynolds represents BK at the Submission Series event held at the Bella Rose center in Halifax, this will be an amazing show of grappling/BJJ, see Facebook page for ticket info
  7. June 27th our senior BJJ adviser Edgard Lucke is here teaching a seminar at the club, all welcome to attend
  8. Two BK instructors recently became fathers, Nick for the first time and Mark for the second time, all the best to everyone.
  9. Kids and adult JJJ belt test will be taking place in June, dates to be announced.
